Rotary Peace activities, emphasizing IHL
lundi 28 octobre 2024 18:00-19:00
Zoom meeting
Urs Stirnimann will deliver a short presentation on Rotary Peace activities, emphasizing International Humanitarian Law (IHL). IHL is the legal framework that applies during times of armed conflict and political tensions, guiding peace-building efforts and safeguarding those affected., Drawing on Urs's extensive field experience, the presentation would highlight the vital role of IHL in conflict zones. In the 1980s, Urs worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) during Lebanon's civil war and the Israeli occupation, followed by a mission in El Salvador's civil war. At the beginning of this century, he led a special mission in Palestine on behalf of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, serving as a legal advisor, head of staff, and lecturer in international law to officials from various foreign ministries., This presentation will aim to deepen your understanding of IHL and its significance in contemporary peace efforts, providing insights into the challenges and solutions in conflict settings. It would offer valuable context and inspiration for Rotary's ongoing peace initiatives., Meeting ID: 810 7304 6667 Passcode: 530071
